Manchester United have reportedly ‘identified’ Real Madrid starlet Vinicius Junior as Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor at Old Trafford, with the Reds monitoring the Brazilian.
Ronaldo is not expected to return to United following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan earlier this week, with the 37-year-old having claimed that he has been ‘betrayed’ by the club, as well as criticising his manager Erik ten Hag, the club’s owners and several of his former teammates.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Ten Hag is keen on Vinicius Jr. and sees him as the perfect replacement for five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo. The 22-year-old Brazilian’s contract with Los Blancos expires in 2024, but he is expected to remain with the LaLiga giants beyond then.
The report also claims that the United boss would have personally spoken to Vinicius Jr. by now and that the Reds would also offer him the infamous No.7 shirt after Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford.
Vinicius Jr. has registered 46 goals and 48 assists in 191 appearances for Madrid, as well as featuring on 16 occasions for Brazil so far in his career.
Elsewhere, Calciomercatoweb are reporting that Serie A side Fiorentina are emerging as a surprise candidate for Ronaldo to move to in the January transfer window.
Fiorentina owner Rocco B. Commisso is reportedly willing to pay Ronaldo whatever he wants in the hope of luring him to La Viola, but it remains unclear if the veteran frontman would be interested in returning to Italy.
Ronaldo, who scored 101 goals in 134 matches for Juventus, is attracting a lot of interest, despite his explosive TV interview with Morgan. He has reportedly received an offer to move to Australia in the upcoming transfer window.
