Manchester City

While many teams may be using the unique time off mid-way through the season to begin planning for the January transfer window, Manchester City may well be the odd one out.

It’s rare that City add to their squad during the winter month, with Aymeric Laporte the last first-team signing in January way back in 2018, and that run is unlikely to end this time around. The Blues had an uncharacteristically busy summer with six players being brought in as Pep Guardiola move to rejuvenate his squad.

Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega were all recruited while Fernandinho, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Aleks Zinchenko – four players who’ve had a significant hand in the club’s recent success – all departed. That’s a lot of change in one summer and the Blues are still working on ironing out the kinks after it.

So at the moment, it looks like it will be an uneventful January. However, with the condensed World Cup hoisting an intense fixture schedule on the players after an already hectic domestic season and with City having 16 representatives in Qatar, who knows if the need for signings will become much more pressing once the tournament concludes.

Though players leaving the Etihad is even less likely, you never know with football and anything can happen once the window is open. You can vote in the widget below which players United should keep and which they should sell in the transfer window. The results will be published later this week.
