Matheus Cunha

Manchester United will revive their interest in Atletico Madrid and Brazil player Matheus Cunha during the January transfer window – according to reports. Cunha, 23, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer with lingering question marks over Cristiano Ronaldo and his future.

Cunha was mooted as a potential replacement for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. He has yet to score for Atletico this season, but remains highly-rated and valued at around £52.6million.

Spanish publication Marca suggest United could come calling for the former Hertha Berlin forward and he would be open to pursuing a switch to the Premier League.

Cunha was expected to be a key man for Diego Simeone this season. However, things have not turned out quite as planned for the eight-cap Brazil international. His contract expires in 2026 – although Atletico are thought to be keen on allowing him to seek out a new challenge when the market reopens.

Elsewhere, reported United target Max Aarons wants to end up at Old Trafford, it has been claimed.

Diogo Dalot remains first choice at right-back for United under Erik ten Hag and the club are still wanting to cash-in on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has seldom been used by the Dutch manager. He signed from Crystal Palace for around £50million in 2019 but has now been deemed surplus to requirements by the club.

Aarons continues to earn rave reviews for his performances at Championship side Norwich City and has, previously, been linked with a move to United for a fee around the £15million mark. A reports from GiveMeSport states that the promising 22-year-old would welcome an opportunity to showcase his talent at a bigger club.

Having progressed through the Carrow Road system, Aarons has already made 187 senior appearances for Norwich – despite his age – as well as being capped 18 times by England U21s.
