Christophe Galtier

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video following Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-0 win against Auxerre at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, manager Christophe Galtier spoke about his desire to to put an extra formation in place, after already having mastered a 3-4-3 at the start of the season, and easily transitioned into a 4-3-1-2 recently.

The current PSG boss says he took inspiration from the way that Thomas Tuchel used a back-four, as transcribed by Foot Mercato:

“The system? We worked on a three-man defence but also a four-man with Danilo coming up the middle to put pressure. This is something that was already done with Tuchel, a lot with Marquinhos in this role. It gives balance, and confidence in the air. With the staff during the break, we will work on something else to find variety and surprise opponents and our players.”

The current PSG manager says he took inspiration from former Paris Saint Germain boss Thomas Tuchel, who indeed used the back the four as his go-to formation both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League during his time in the French capital.

PSG won 5-0 against Auxerre with goals from five different providers: Kylian Mbappé, Carlos Soler, Achraf Hakimi, Renato Sanches, and Hugo Ekitike were all on the scoresheet in what was a perfect finish before the World Cup break for the Parisiens.
