Manchester United are reportedly chasing a bargain deal for Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
The former Stoke striker, 33, is nearing the end of his current deal with the German giants and French publication Media Foot reports he has become a target for United.
They are said to be showing ‘strong’ interest in the Cameroon international. He is seen as a possible alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is largely expected to leave Old Trafford once his contract concludes this season. As well as the Potters, Choupo-Moting also spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain.
The report claims that United are ‘seriously considering’ making an offer for the forward, who has netted eight goals in 13 appearances, ahead of a potential move next summer. But Bayern are reportedly keen to keep hold of the former Stoke forward and want to offer him a new contract to remain in Germany.
Meanwhile, the Sun claims United are ready to trigger an extension to Diogo Dalot’s deal in order to keep him at Old Trafford for a further year.
The Portuguese has been one of the stars of the season so far and has started every game since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
His form has led to some of Europe’s biggest clubs declaring an interest with Barcelona and AC Milan sniffing. Dalot’s current deal expires at the end of this season but United have a clause whereby they can trigger a one-year extension.
The report says Carlos Goncalves – Dalot’s agent – is in constant dialogue with the club over penning a fresh arrangement, and United could trigger the extension clause in order to ward off interest from other clubs.
