Milan Skriniar

Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar and AC Milan winger Rafael Leao are each preparing to sign new contracts at their San Siro clubs, dealing major transfer blows to Chelsea and Manchester United, according to reports.

The Slovakian defender attracted plenty of interest last summer from a handful of top flight European clubs including PSG and Chelsea, who ultimately opted to sign Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana at centre-half.

However, it is believed Skriniar firmly remains on Todd Boehly’s radar alongside Milan’s rising star Leao, who has also riveted the gaze of Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag as well.

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday that Manchester United were plotting a £60million swoop for the Portuguese winger next summer, and that the club’s scouts had watched Chelsea’s clash with AC Milan last week in a bid to keep tabs on the winger.

However, for both Chelsea and United, it seems their respective transfer plans are about to hit a significant bump in the road.

According to the Evening Standard, both Skriniar and Leao are set for fresh contracts at their current clubs.

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta said: ‘We’ll meet with Milan Skriniar agents after the game versus Viktoria Plzen. There are chances to reach an agreement on new deal.

‘Skriniar is a top professional and he loves Inter, I’m optimistic — then it’s up to him too’.

Meanwhile, Milan director of football Frederic Massara insisted he was ‘confident’ that Leao would sign a new deal at the club in the coming days.

With three points separating the to six rivals in the table, Manchester United host Spurs at Old Trafford while Graham Potter’s Blues face Brentford away on Saturday.
