Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji has agreed a deal to join Manchester City.
The 27-year-old will join the Premier League champions for an initial £15million fee with a further £1.7million in add-ons, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Akanji is undergoing a medical at City, and is expected to be announced as the club’s fifth new arrival of the transfer window in the coming days.
The move comes as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his options in the centre of defence with Aymeric Laporte still on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season.
Guardiola will now have five senior centre-backs at his disposal, as the Manchester club look to defend their Premier League title for the third successive season.
With just days remaining before the end of the transfer window, Guardiola remained coy about the possibility of further arrivals before the deadline.
Speaking before City’s game with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, the City boss said: ‘I don’t know, I don’t know what will happen.’
Akanji had previously been linked with a loan move to Leicester City, but the 27-year-old rebuffed Brendan Rodgers’ approach as he wanted to play Champions League football.
