Jules Kounde

The Barça management have worked hard over the last few days to satisfy the wish of coach Xavi Hernandez, who was stubborn in the need to sign the Sevilla defender.

The two clubs had already reached an agreement in principle and only needed to finalise the details. Barça will pay 50 million euros and have committed to pay another 10 million more in add-ons. The club also had a pre-agreement with the French centre-back, who will sign for the next four seasons.

Up until days ago everything indicated that Koundé was going to sign for Chelsea after they tabled an offer of 60 million, albeit in several installments, but Barça have engineered a twist with their recent initiative.

Xavi’s intervention has proved decisive in Barça finalising the signing of the French international. The Spanish coach has been in contact with the player and asked him to be patient and wait for FC Barcelona to make their offer. Koundé agreed and bet on his signing for Barça, and this put to vain the efforts of Chelsea and their agreement with Sevilla.
