Barcelona were in need of a morale boost after disappointments on and off the field in recent years.

Unable to compete against Europe’s best, the Blaugrana’s recent signing of Robert Lewandowski has sent a message to the rest of the continent.

“Barca is back,” were Lewandowski’s first words as a Barcelona player.

After a whirlwind few days, the 33-year-old has finally met up with his new teammates in Fort Lauderdale (Florida).

The former Bayern Munich player introduced himself, one by one, to the players as they ate dinner. Some greeted him with relief, like Gerard Pique.

After years of suffering at the hands of one of the best strikers in the world, Pique, and the rest of the Barcelona defenders, are happy to have Lewandowski on their side now.

Joan Laporta also couldn’t hide his delight at the signing.

After being under pressure for the last few months, he knows that his moves with the club’s economic levers could be seen as a stroke of genius if results on the pitch follow.

He also knows what will happen if things go wrong.

The presentation

Ever since it’s been known that Lewandowski would join Barcelona’s training camp in the United States, all eyes have been on when his presentation will take place.

The club have used their social media accounts to generate a buzz that peaked when the striker made his move official online, posing at a lifeguard station on a Florida beach.

As with everything involved in this signing, his presentation didn’t go off without a hitch.

Initially scheduled for 1pm in Florida (7pm in Spain), it was later postponed. Club sources blamed it on timing more than anything.

The player passed his medical without problems in a Miami clinic, and he’s scheduled to take part in his first training session as a Blaugrana tonight at the DRV PNK Stadium.

That’s where Barcelona will take on Inter Miami in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Lewandowski could play his first minutes with his new club against Miami given he was training while still with Bayern Munich.

While he wouldn’t play many minutes, it would allow him to make his debut.
