Youri Tielemans

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined Arsenal in the bidding war over Leicester star Youri Tielemans, reports suggest.

Metro report that United have turned to Tielemans after their bid to sign top target Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona hit a snag.

United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his midfield after losing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic and made De Jong his top target.

The Red Devils thought they struck a £72million deal with Barca but obstacles have emerged as the star midfielder is owed money by the Spanish club.

There are also doubts over whether the Netherlands international actually wants to move to Old Trafford.

Therefore, the Manchester giants have turned to Tielemans in their bid to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on the Belgium international but are thought to be closing in on Manchester City ace Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Gunners have agreed a £30m fee with City but are still working on finalising personal terms.

That could spell the end of their interest in Tielemans as Mikel Arteta plans to use Zinchenko predominantly in midfield.

The Leicester star’s contract runs out next year and there has been no progress regarding a renewal.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is planning to hold talks with the 25-year-old to discuss his future as the Foxes risk losing him for free next year.

Rodgers said: “There’s no update at all. He’s an amazing guy to work with.

“He’s just re-joined the club [for pre-season] and he’s pretty much the same. In training he’s very committed.

“He’s happy in his work and he’s happy at the club. But naturally with a year in his contract he may feel he has to look at everything for him and his family.

“But I certainly know he’s committed while he is here.

“I’ll have a good chat with Youri next week to get privately what he’s thinking.

“But it won’t change, whether he’s leaving or staying for another five years, he’ll still be super committed.”
