Paul Pogba arrived in Turin to a rapturous reception, returning to the city he left six years ago when he joined Manchester United.

Having flown into the city on Friday, Pogba underwent medical tests on Saturday morning and was greeted by thousands of Juventus fans delighted to see the midfielder return.

The Frenchman departed Juventus in 2016 for Manchester United in a deal that was worth £89m. However, he failed to deliver on his price tag and returns to Juventus with something to prove.

There appeared to be little animosity between Juventus fans and the player over his departure in 2016, with many clearly delighted that the France international was returning to north Italy.

Arriving at the JMedical centre in Turin, Pogba was driven in a club-issue Jeep with fans adorning the side of the road all trying to catch a glimpse of the returning Frenchman.

After stepping out of the car, Pogba took the adulation in before carrying out his medical tests. Greeting the fans with both arms aloft, Pogba appeared a far cry from the man who was booed off in a number games for Manchester United at the back end of last season.

Donning a white shirt and shorts in the beating Turin sun, Pogba, who played 178 times for Juventus between 2012 and 2016, waved to the thousands of fans who had come out to see him.

On Friday, the Frenchman had teased his imminent arrival at Juventus, sharing a video of himself on a private jet that was bound for Turin.

Juventus, who are without a Scudetto in the last two seasons, will hope Pogba’s arrival back at the club can hail in a new era of dominance. The Frenchman will be joined by Argentine Angel Di Maria after the former Real Madrid man joined on a free transfer having departed Paris Saint Germain last month.

Pogba’s arrival at Juventus is the transfer that has grabbed the hearts and minds of the fans, however. The Italian press, meanwhile, was dominated by Pogba’s return on Saturday morning.

La Gazzetta dello Sport lead with the headline ‘Pogbang!’ alongside a picture of the midfielder smiling and gesturing towards the cameras when he arrived in Turin.

Pogba, who won four Scudettos during his initial stint at the club, will sign on a four-year deal after completing his medical. It has been reported that he will earn up to £8m a season.
