Romelu Lukaku

Signed for a club-record fee by Chelsea last summer, Romelu Lukaku is inching toward making an eye-catching return to Inter after just one season upon his return to London.

Speaking to the microphones of Radio Anch’io Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb), Giuseppe Marotta, the chief executive officer of Inter, admitted that it would be difficult for the Italian club to re-sign the Belgian but they would give it a shot.

He said:

“I can say that today will not be the day of Lukaku’s announcement.

“I, Ausilio and Baccin have the duty to build a competitive team while respecting the sustainability of the our club. From here polls and negotiations intertwine. We must have the ambition to try all the ways, without being afraid of not reaching the goal. The Lukaku track is passable but there are difficulties and we will see how it goes.”

It is reported that Inter will hold talks over a potential deal with their counterparts from the Premier League club on Monday. But, as suggested by Marotta as well, it is unlikely to their last meeting regarding the matter.

Inter want a season-long loan deal for the marksman. Chelsea are happy to let go of the striker on a loan deal. But they are demanding a loan fee of €10-12 million.

Inter are not near to that valuation at the moment. However, the next set of talks could bring the teams closer to reaching a consensus.
