Manchester United are anticipated to disclose a list of released players in the double digits at the end of the season.
Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani, as well as fourth-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, are all out of contract next month.
Last season, United activated the one-year options in the contracts of Mata, Cavani, and Grant, as well as the extensions in the contracts of Pogba and Lingard.
Matic declined to extend his contract for another year and announced his exit last month, but United first said that he had signed a deal that would last until 2023.
Ondrej Mastny, Reece Devine, Charlie Wellens, and Connor Stanley, as well as forwards D’Mani Mellor and Mateo Mejia, are all out of contract at the academy level.
Mejia and Wellens, both 19, have one-year options on their contracts, although it’s uncertain whether either will be used.
Devine spent this season on loan at St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership and Walsall in League Two, Stanley played for Atlanta United’s reserve team, and Mellor spent five months at Salford City.
Stanley has already signed with a new club for the summer, while final decisions on Mastny, Devine, and Mellor are still to be made.
As the final month of Dylan Levitt’s contract approaches, it’s unclear whether United will activate the one-year extension under his contract.
After a season-long loan in the Scottish Premiership, Levitt, 21, is expected to be awarded Dundee United’s player of the year. Last year, he represented Wales in the European Championship, although his sole appearance for United came in the Europa League group stage defeat to Astana in November 2019.
In 2020, the United academy’s duty of care to departed players was greatly commended, since they were still permitted access to Carrington training facilities. United can also help players find new clubs.
