Eddie Nketiah

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted he has been unfair with striker Eddie Nketiah following his outstanding performance against Chelsea.

Nketiah hasn’t been given enough playing time at Arsenal with Arteta opting to give Alexandre Lacazette the mandate to lead the club’s attack. The England international was handed a starting role against Chelsea and produced a man-of-the-match performance, grabbing a brace as Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said, “If there is one player I have been unfair with, it is him. He has given me every right to do something different, so if Eddie hasn’t played more, it’s my fault, I have missed something or I haven’t had the courage.”

“He showed me again how wrong I was,” he concluded.

“Then tell them that they have to be at Emirates Stadium with us on Saturday because we don’t have time to recover & they need to be really noisy & loud to help us win the match.”

The 22-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season.
