Wayne Rooney Premier League Hall of Fame

Derby County have been dropped from the Championship following Reading’s remarkable comeback victory over Swansea.

The Rams have been up against it since they were docked 21 points for financial mismanagement during former owner Mel Morris’ tenure.

Wayne Rooney’s team required a win away at QPR to maintain their Championship status, but Luke Amos’ 88th minute strike assured they would leave Loftus Road empty-handed.

Derby still had a chance of survival at that time. However, after falling behind 4-1 against Swansea, Reading rallied to secure a dramatic point at the Select Car Leasing Stadium; with academy graduate Tom McIntyre scoring an equalizer four minutes into extra time, only three days after scoring a stoppage time winner against Sheffield United.

Barnsley and Peterborough are still fighting for survival for the time being, but it will take an incredible turn of events for them to avoid the drop at the cost of Reading, who have shown tremendous character and drive in recent weeks to pick up important points.

Derby join League One despite winning 13 games and drawing 13 others this season – a record that would have seen them comfortably avoid relegation had they not been punished with the colossal points punishment.
