World football governing body FIFA has selected eight referees from Africa to officiate at the 2022 World Cup.

The tournament is set for November and December in the Arab country, a first winter World Cup in history.

Seven of the eight referees selected are among the 10 referees who officiated the African Qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup Playoffs last month.

Among the names on the list is Zambian whistleblower Janny Sikazwe, who is remembered for prematurely ending an Africa Cup of Nations match in February.

Only Tessema, Gassama, and Sikazwe officiated the last World Cup edition held in Russia back in 2018.

Africa will be represented by Ghana, Cameroon, Tunisia, Senegal, and Morocco at the finals.
