Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has allayed fears of a head injury on midfielder Fabinho he picked up on Tuesday night in a win over Benfica.

Fabinho suffered a cut on the head after clashing with Nicolas Otamendi during injury time of Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. The Reds can not afford to lose a key player with fixtures now piling and they will be up against leaders Manchester City over the weekend.

Speaking after the win, the German revealed he is confident Fabinho will be available for selection when they take on Pep Guardiola’s men.

“He’s fine,” said the Reds boss.

“That is how it looks, it is a cut on the back of his head and there is no hair to hold the blood back. But he should be completely fine.”

Ibrahima Konate opened the scoring for Liverpool before Sadio Mane made it 2-0. At the start of the second half, Darwin Nunez pulled one back before Luis Diaz sealed the triumph late on.
