Gonzalo Higuain’s father Jorge confirms the striker’s retirement at the conclusion of the season.

The 34-year-old is now under contract with Inter Miami and, according to his father, this will be his final season as a professional footballer.

Jorge Higuain said that the former Serie A great would retire at the conclusion of the MLS season. In America, the regular season concludes in November, while the play-off final takes place on December 11.

“I don’t think he will return to Argentina, he told me that he will retire at the end of the season,” Higuain’s father told TNT Sports in Argentina.

“I’d like to see him in the world of football after the end of his career. He knows a lot about this sport. He has everything to triumph. It will be a shame if he doesn’t continue in football.”

El Pipita spent most of his playing career in Italy, for Napoli, Juventus, and Milan. In 224 games in Italy’s top division, he scored 125 goals: 91 with Napoli, 66 with Juventus, and eight with Milan.

In 2015-16, he set a new Serie A scoring record with 36 goals in 35 league games for Napoli. Ciro Immobile of Lazio equaled his record in the 2019-20 season.

He began his professional football career with River Plate before joining Real Madrid in January 2007 under Fabio Capello. Higuain also spent six months on loan with Chelsea, making 18 appearances and scoring five goals.
