Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is confident that defender Kieran Trippier will play again this season.
Trippier joined the club in January and after a proper display in his first weeks, he got an injury that has since ruled him out of action but Howe is optimistic about the player’s chances of returning as they fight relegation.
“His injury is healing, it’s not totally healed. We will be able to start pushing him, maybe not as quickly as we initially wanted to, but I still think he’ll come back this season. Again, there’s no definitive date on that but he’s making good progress,” Howe said after their Sunday loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

“Kieran has a scan on his foot today to see how that’s healed. Hopefully the scan goes well and then we can push him quite quickly to get him back – so we’re hoping for good news.” pic.twitter.com/vdZeTIHkYq

The team shipped five goals against Spurs as they suffered their third defeat on the bounce; a streak that has seen them get dragged back in the relegation battle. The Magpies are now placed 15th with 31 points just nine points above 18th placed Watford FC.
They will be hoping for a change of fortunes when they take on Wolves in their next game.
