The defender was preparing for England’s friendly against Switzerland but didn’t feature in the game as manager Gareth Southgate opted to start with Arsenal’s Ben White and Palace’s Guehi in central defence.

Maguire has been the target of criticism from United fans this season following a poor run of form for his club of late with a section calling on manager Ralf Rangnick to strip him off of the captaincy.
Rangnick had to dispel rumours that he was looking at replacing the former Leicester City man with Cristiano Ronaldo for the role but that hasn’t stopped the fans from calling him out during games.
