Egypt registered a 1-0 victory over Senegal on Friday night in the first leg of their World Cup playoff on Friday.
It was a rematch between the two sides after Senegal beat Egypt on penalties to lift their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title. Saliou Ciss’s own goal made the difference after the defender put the ball into his own net just inside four minutes of play.
Mo Salah beat the offside trap to get on the end of the ball, going past Amr El Sulaya and his effort hit the post before it bounce off Ciss.
The return leg will take place next week on Tuesday at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.
Cameroon 0-1 Algeria
Algeria secured a slim 1-0 win over Algeria in their CAF World Cup playoff first leg played in Doula on Friday. The visitors took a huge step in the hunt for a step in this year’s finals in Qatar. Islam Slimani scored the only goal with a powerful header in the 40th minute.
The return leg will be played on Tuesday with Algeria now in a better position to qualify for their fifth appearance at the World Cup.
