Xavi Hernandes

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandes is not ruling his team out of the Laliga title race following their win over Real Madrid on Sunday.

Barca beat Madrid 4-0 to cut the gap between them and their arch-rivals to 12 points and even though there are just nine games left to play, Xavi believes they have what it takes to win the title.

Asked about his side’s title hope, Xavi said: “Very difficult. I think the same as yesterday. We’ve won, and also have the head-to-head advantage, which can be important, but it’s very difficult.

“Madrid only has three defeats in the league. And they have to lose three more. It’s difficult but we won’t rule it out. We have to keep working hard. The first objective is to qualify for the Champions League.”

Barca has a date with Sevilla in their league game before ties against Cadiz, Real Sociedad, Rayo Vallecano, Mallorca and Real Betis to follow. Madrid on the otehr hand will have ties against Celta Vigo, Getafe, Sevilla, Osasuna and Espanyol.

Both teams are still in European competition with Real Madrid taking on Chelsea FC in the quarterfinals of the Champions League as Barca has a date with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
