Joel Matip

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised defender Joel Matip over his consistency this season.

Matip has been an outstanding member of the Reds this season and has been the preferred center-back partner to Virgil van Dijk as they try to wrestle the league title from Manchester City.

The Cameroonian consistency saw him named the Premier League Player of the Month for February and according to his manager, the player has to be lauded for his output on the field.

As quoted by Anfield Watch’s Twitter account, the German said: “Is Matip in his best form? No. It’s the most ‘obvious’ form as he’s scored and assisting and defending, but he is so consistent. He won Player of the Month, that’s great. Long, long, long may it continue.”

The club signed the center-back from Schalke on a free transfer back in the summer of 2016. Since then, he has gone on to make 155 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team and helped the club win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, and League Cup.

Matip’s contract does not expire until June 2024 and there are reports that the club are willing to extend his deal if he can prove his fitness.
