Manchester United manager Ralph Rangnick is not sure if midfielder Bruno Fernandes will be available for their midweek clash against Atletico Madrid.
The Portuguese missed United’s Saturday win over Tottenham Hotspur with Rangnick admitting that they will wait until the last minutes to see if he will be fit.
“I don’t know,” Rangnick said when asked about Fernande’s availability against Atleti. “With Scotty (McTominay), I hope so but he had some muscular problems with his calf. That’s why we decided not to play him today because Scotty is quite like Fred, he is only valuable if he can perform with 100% of his physical capacity, and rather than playing him at maybe 80% and take the risk that he will be out for Tuesday, we decided to not play him.”
The manager further confirmed that left-back Luke Shaw will be available for the Champions League tie after also missing the Spurs game.
“Luke hopefully will be back in training tomorrow and Bruno we will have to wait and see until Tuesday. This will probably be a last-minute race with him,” he added.
United and Atleti are tied on a 1-1 draw heading into the second leg of the tie at Old Trafford set for Tuesday 15, March.
