Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu remains a doubt for Sunday’s Premier League match against Leicester City.

The Japan international returned to the bench for last month’s win against Brentford following a leg injury, but has subsequently suffered an injury to his other calf.

Tomiyasu has not appeared in the Premier League since the New Year’s Day loss to Manchester City, and Arteta has now offered an update on the right-back’s health.

The Spaniard said:

Tomiyasu we are still assessing him. We are taking some time to get him back in the safest and best possible way.

Emile looks like he is going to be available.

He went through COVID, he’s feeling good now, he’s had a couple of training sessions and hopefully, he can get the rhythm, consistency, and stay out of missing games because he’s a really important player for us. We need him.

Arsenal will look to make it five Premier League wins in a row in Sunday’s game against Leicester, who will be missing Jamie Vardy, who has 11 goals against them.
