Robert Lewandowski set a new Champions League record on Tuesday Bayern Munich hammered RB Salzburg to storm to quarters.

Lewandowski needed less than half an hour to complete his hattrick and set a new record in the Champions League. Munich headed into the second leg on level terms having forced a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The Poland international gave the Bavarians an early lead in the 12th minute after converting a penalty. Nine minutes later, Lewa grabbed his brace from the spot before completing his hattrick within 120 seconds of returning to the centre circle.

The 33-year-old needed 23 minutes to break the record set by Marco Simone for Milan against Rosenborg in 1996(24 minutes).

Lewandowski has now 12 goals in the current tournament, one ahead of Ajax’s Sebastien Haller.
