Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has explained the absence of some key players for the derby at City.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the notable absentee, with conflicting reports emerging from various quarters on why he missed the clash.
Rangnick though moved to quell the rumours, revealing the winger picked a hip injury in training.
Defenders Shaw and Varane were both absent, with the German further revealing they both tested positive for Covid-19.
“Rapha Varane and Luke Shaw tested positive with Covid unfortunately in midweek,” he told us. “Edi trained well in the last three days but, at the end, he didn’t feel quite well enough to be able to play. And Cristiano had some problems with his hip flexor on Friday and since then, he didn’t train.”
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire started at the heart of the defence, with Alex Telles operating to the left of them.
Scott McTominay also returned after his illness while Bruno Fernandes featured as ‘false nine’ with Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho on each side.
