The highly anticipated match between Liverpool and arch-rivals Manchester United which was slated for Sunday 20 March 2022 has been postponed.
The move has been necessitated by a fixture pile-up for Jurgen Klopp’s side who are still in contention in three trophies. The Red’s progression in the FA Cup means that they will now be playing their quarter-final tie that weekend.
The move will see Liverpool have yet another game in hand on Premier League leaders Manchester City as they aim to topple the Pep Guardiola side in the title race.
Liverpool eased past Norwich despite a nervy ending in the fifth round of the FA Cup to book their place in the quarter-finals, whereas United’s run ended in the previous round after losing to Middlesbrough on penalties.
Due to an unlimited number of free midweeks, the clash with United at Anfield may have to take place on either Tuesday 19 April or Wednesday 20 April, providing they hold off Inter Milan at home in the Champions League.
Both United and Liverpool have secured positive results in the first leg of their European knockout ties and could progress to the next stage if they can see off both Inter and Atletico Madrid respectively.
