Ousmane Dembele netted a close-range thunderbolt from a difficult angle during Barcelona’s La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao.
In the 73rd minute, with Barcelona leading 1-0 after Pierre-Emerick Aubayemag’s first-half goal, Frenkie de Jong delivered a sweeping first-time pass out to Dembele, who was then able to drag the ball down and go into the box, where he unleashed an audaciously strong shot toward goal.
It flew past the inside of the post, leaving goalkeeper Unai Simon scrambling for the ball.
Dembele then celebrated by sprinting over to the Barcelona bench, where he was surrounded by his teammates, and he made a point of approaching Xavi and hugging the manager, who embraced him.
This was a good confidence boost for the player, who has faced heavy criticism from the media and Barca fans since his refusal to extend his deal with the Catalan club.
Late goals from Luuk de Jong and Memphis Depay sealed the win for Barcelona and they are now up to fourth in La Liga.
