Germany club Schalke 04 have ended their partnership deal with their main kit sponsor Gazprom in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The club had initially removed the sponsor’s name from the shirt, but a statement on Monday indicated they had parted ways with the company.
A statement from the club read;
“The FC Schalke 04 managing board and supervisory board have come to the agreement to end the club’s partnership with GAZPROM prematurely. The club are currently in discussions with representatives of the current sponsor and further information will be released at a later date,”
The club moved to assure all stakeholders that the decision does not affect the club’s financial capabilities, suggesting they are working on getting a new partner ‘in the near future’.
The sponsorship agreement was set to run until 2025 and was to give the club a total of $10 million should the club be promoted back to the Bundesliga.
