Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has given an update on his team ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against French side Lille.

The Blues narrowly beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday evening to continue with their recent good form, which has seen them keep pace with leaders Man City.

The German tactician acknowledged there is a lot his side needs to do ahead of the round of 16 clash at Stamford Bridge.

Cezar Azpilicueta missed the win at Selhurst Park but could be available against the French club.

Mason Mount, who like Cezar, missed the match against Palace will not be involved as he continues to recover from a recent injury.

“We try to get them fit for Tuesday,” said Tuchel, adding; “Azpi has some groin problems and felt a pain in the last action of Thursday’s training

“Callum tried in training on Friday but also felt some pain around the Achilles. It’s a bit of inflammation and the pain was too strong,”

Tuchel further underlined what his players need to do before the match at Stamford Bridge.

“We should not think too much of how others could see us as the favourites against Lille,” added the German.

“We have to accept at the moment it’s a phase where things feel a bit tight and more difficult than other times. This is the situation for the match on Tuesday.

“It’s important to be realistic and not over-expect from us, and accept games against midtable teams can become difficult. Once we accept that, it’s the first step to feel certain freedom and become better,”

Chelsea are favourites against the French club, who currently sit 11th.
