Mario Balotelli

The great enigma that is Mario Balotelli is back in the big time. The former Manchester City star has revealed why he avoided watching Italy.

As Futaa reported last month, Balotelli completed a shock return to the Italy national side after the 31-year-old scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Turkish side Adana Demirspor this term.

Ahead of his official return to camp in the next FIFA break, Balotelli has explained how it has been being out of the Azzurri fold.

“I haven’t followed Italy much during the Euros, it hurts to watch their games without me,” the Italian striker told Le Iene.

“This team won the Euros without me, so they fully deserved it. Surely, had I been fit to play the Euros, we would have won more easily.”

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan striker concluded the chat by confirming his close and long relationship with Italy’s national side coach Roberto Mancini.

“I love Roberto Mancini too much and he doesn’t deserve anything similar to what happened in the past,” he added.

“We talk sometimes, he keeps telling me to work hard trying to improve in some aspects.”

Meanwhile, the Euro champions will take on North Macedonia on 24 March.
