Super Eagles could miss the services of defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Kenneth Omeruo when they take on Sudan in their second group stage game of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria started the tournament on the right foot as they beat Egypt 1-0 in the opening match thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s first-half strike. Omeruo picked up a knock in the second half against Egypt while Awaziem wasn’t in the matchday squad due to an injury.
Head coach Austin Eguavoen says the pair is struggling with a fitness issue and would be assessed by the medical team before the Sudan encounter.
“Chidozie Awaziem had a little strain, while Kenneth Omeruo had a groin injury. We will access Omeruo to know the extent of the injury,” he told reporters as reported by the brila.
Meanwhile, defender Ola Aina says the Super Eagles are not being carried away by their 1-0 victory over Egypt.
“We want to go all the way, that’s our aim as a team. We want to win for our country and ourselves,” he said.
“We will take it game by game. We need the same concentration and quality in the next match.”
The Super Eagles who are at the top of Group D will face Sudan at Estádio Roumdé Adjia Stadium on Saturday 16th January.
