Tunisia’s coach has spoken on the biggest controversy of AFCON 2021 so far. Mondher Kebaier has explained why his side declined to finish the Mali game after it was bizarrely ended too early.
As reported here on Futaa this week, Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe blew for full-time on two occasions, in the 85th minute and once again in the 89th minute. Yes, you read that correctly.
It was soon revealed that authorities decided players were to return to the pitch to resume the game’s final three minutes and stoppage time – but Tunisia said no thank you.
“The referee blew the whistle at the 85th-minute mark and at the 89th-minute mark, it’s lunar, ” Kebaier said after the game, as per CafOnline.
“He deprived us of concentration. We did not want to resume because the players had already taken their baths, deconcentrated and demoralised in the face of this gruesome situation,” the concluded.
Meanwhile, The Eagles of Carthage will now take on Mauritania on Sunday in Limbe.
