Philippe Coutinho

Aston Villa’s new acquisition Philippe Coutinho has been authorized to play in the Premier League against Manchester United following his loan move from Barcelona.

The 29-year-old has been in Paris completing paperwork for his work visa to return to England’s top division, and he will now join his new colleagues on Wednesday.

Coutinho, according to Sky Sports News, will be available to Villa on Saturday for their second meeting with Ralf Rangnick’s side this week, having been knocked out of the FA Cup third round by Manchester United on Monday evening.

Steven Gerrard is unlikely to start his former Liverpool teammate this weekend due to the Brazil international’s recent coronavirus infection, but he might make his debut from the bench at Villa Park.

Coutinho is on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season, but the contract includes an option for Aston Villa to purchase the attacking midfielder for £33 million.

The Brazilian last appeared in the Premier League in December 2017 for Liverpool, where he scored 54 goals and assisted 45 times in 201 games.
