All eyes are on the Africa Cup of Nations after it started last Sunday. CAF have also confirmed increasing the prize money for AFCON 2021.
The welcome decision to improve the financial reward was agreed upon by the governing body at an Executive Committee meeting in Douala, Cameroon last week.

The money increases will apply in all the knockout stage rounds, as well as the biggest prize of the champions.
- Winner: USD 5 million (increased by USD 500 000)
- Runner-up: USD 2.75 million (increased by USD 250 000)
- Semi-Finalists: USD 2.2 million (increased by USD 200 000)
- Quarter-Finalists: USD 1.175 million (increased by USD 175 000).
Meanwhile, the defending champions Algeria will start this year’s tournament on Tuesday against Sierra Leone.
