Bayern Munich started the new year on the wrong foot after losing 2-1 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

Munich had a few first-team players missing due to coronavirus cases but had a better start to the game as they controlled Gladbach at Allianz Arean in the opening minutes.

Dominant Bayern took the lead through Robert Lewandowski in the 18th minute after being set up by Thomas Muller.

However, in the 27th minute, Florian Neuhaus levelled the scores for the visitors before Stefan Lainer scored the second four minutes later to turn things around.

Munich continued to press for a leveller but time was not on their side as Gladbach held on to beat the league leaders 2-1 to move to eleventh on the log standings. The defeat marked Munich’s third loss of the season in the Bundesliga.
