Manchester United have confirmed a double blow ahead of meeting Aston Villa in the Premier League next weekend.

The club has revealed that two of its key players, central midfielder Scott McCtominay and left-back Luke Shaw picked up cautions during Monday’s shock 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The duo will therefore miss next weekend’s Premier League game, but will however be available when the Red Devils meet the same Villa in the FA Cup third round battle on Monday.

“Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw picked up their fifth bookings of the Premier League season during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves,” the club said.

“McTominay was cautioned by referee Mike Dean for a foul on Daniel Podence in the first half before Shaw followed suit when also bringing the Wolves forward down as he made his way down the right flank.

“It was costly for the pair as they are now suspended for our next outing in the division, against Aston Villa on 15 January, with the encounter in the Midlands kicking off at 17:30 GMT,” the brief added.

The Cup game will be at Old Trafford, while the second game will be at Villa Park.
