Ez Abde

Barcelona starlet Ez Abde has rejected a call-up from the Spanish national team for Morocco.

The winger joined Barca from Hercules CF last summer and was playing for the club’s B team at the start of the season before he was elevated to the first team by interim manager Sergi Barjuanwho was in charge of the team for a few games after Ronald Koeman was sacked.

New manager Xavi Hernandez has kept the player around with the first team with the 20-year-old establishing himself as a regular in the starting XI with a series of impressive displays on the wings.

He has since scored one goal in the eight appearances he has made with his progress attracting the attention of both Morocco and Spanish national teams.

According to Moroccan outlet Le360 Sport via Marca, the national team’s head coach, Vahid Halihodzic, has called Abde to join up with the squad ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and the player is expected to respond positively to the call.

The report further indicates that the young winger changed his bio on Instagram to “an FC Barcelona player and an international player with the Moroccan national team.”

At the same time, Qatari outlet beIN Sports (h/t MARCA) is claiming that the Spanish Football Federation is trying hard to convince Abde to snub Morocco in favor of representing La Roja at the international level.

The African Cup of Nations will take place between January 9 and February 6 and there are reports that Barca is unwilling to let the player leave the club midway through the season as they try to keep pace with the chasing pack.
