anchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan has named his starting XI of his ultimate German Premier League team.
In an interview with the club’s website, the midfielder picked a number of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Man City stars, and it is a very impressive side.
He went with the 3-4-3 formation, with a good mix of current and former players.
“Jens Lehmann is the goalkeeper that I have picked,” Gundogan said.
“Then I have a back three of Antonio Rudiger, that I play with in the German team right now. Someone who I also admire a lot, Per Mertesacker, also a really good defender in my point of view, someone who played years in the German national team and then also for Arsenal.
“And Jerome Boateng, I have picked. Someone that I’ve played in the national team with. He is someone who has great abilities and he is a really good player.
“In midfield, I have four players, for two kinds of holding midfielders with Emre Can and Michael Ballack. Emre of course I know him myself. We’re very close, a friend of mine who played really well at his time for Liverpool.
“Ahead of those two, I have gone for myself and Mesut Ozil.
“He was an unbelievable talent, his ball-handling was impressive. I had the privilege to have played with him in the national team. A good friend of mine as well and yeah, an unbelievable player.
“Left wing, Leroy [Sane] I don’t know if you guys remember him!
“Striker, Jurgen Klinsmann, he’s a legend in Germany but I’m a little bit too young to remember everything of him playing.
“I remember him in the German national team shirt, scoring a few goals but apart from that I don’t know much, but of course, he was a great player.
“Right winger, Serge Gnabry I don’t think he played much in the Premier League but the developments he had in the last, I would say maybe three or four years at Bayern Munich is quite impressive,”
Gundogan’s ultimate XI: Jens Lehmann; Antonio Rudiger, Per Mertesacker, Jerome Boateng, Emre Can, Michael Ballack, Ilkay Gundogan, Mesut Ozil, Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Jurgen Klinsmann
