Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is facing a selection headache ahead of the Athletic Bilbao clash with several players out after testing positive for coronavirus.
Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Andriy Lunin, Marcelo, Luka Modric and Rodrygo will miss the away trip after testing positive for COVID-19. Midfielder Isco also joined the list on Monday after he also tested positive for the virus while Casemiro is suspended after picking up five yellow cards in La Liga this season.
Dani Carvajal is on the sidelines with an injury and Ancelotti has hinted of a formation change against Bilbao.
“It is true that we are missing a lot of players and maybe we will have to consider a change in the system. I do not know, I am thinking about it,” he told the press on Tuesday.
“The (4-3-3) system that we currently play with has given us a lot in recent games. But we don’t have a right-winger available, and that’s the only thing that could make me change it to a 4-4-2.”
“I have to wait for the night.”
Madrid are leading the LaLiga table with 43 points, six above second-placed Sevilla who have a game in hand.
