Chelsea’s stuttering form in recent matches continued on Sunday afternoon, as they were held to a 0-0 draw away to Wolves.

The Blues reportedly had a request to postpone the match turned down by the Premier League after three more players tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday morning, bringing the total to seven.

They nonetheless named a strong side at Molineux, with Trevoh Chalobah, N’Golo Kante all returning to the starting lineup, while there was a second-half introduction of Mateo Kovacic, who has been out for eight weeks.

They however started the match on the wrong footing as Wolves put them under pressure from the first whistle as they sought to take early control of the proceedings.

They were almost awarded for their brave start in the 15th minute when Daniel Podence found the back of the net after a lightning counter-attack, but the goal was ruled off for offside despite the referee awarding it.

Chelsea settled well into the match and it became a balanced contest, even though there was no meaningful attack as both goalkeepers remained largely untested.

The second half became livelier as both sides went for the elusive goal with no much success.

Christian Pulisic’s 78th-minute attempt was the only highlight of the half, as both sides failed to make any meaningful attack.

The American ran onto a pass in the box unmarked and carefully placed a shot towards the left side of the goal, but a brilliant last-ditch save by Jose Sa denied him.

The draw means Chelsea are now six points behind leaders Manchester City, who won 4-0 away to Newcastle.

Liverpool, who will be in action later in the day remain second on 40 points.
