Manchester City

Manchester City continued with their march to the Premier League title with a comfortable 4-0 win away to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side had an easy ride against bottom-placed Magpies, taking the lead after just five minutes when Joao Cancelo found Ruben Dias inside the box and he showed great determination to get to the ball and plant a header into the back of the net.

City controlled the match from then onwards, and it was only a matter of when and not if they will add a second.

It came just before the half-hour mark when Cancelo unleashed a bullet of a shot from the edge of the box, catching the goalkeeper flat-footed.

They came close to adding a third just before the break when Gabriel Jesus found Kevin de Bruyne inside the box with a net pass, but the Belgian’s shot crept inches wide of the right post.

City continued with their dominance in the second period and almost added a third in the 54th minute only for Martin Dubravka to make a superb save to deny Gabriel Jesus who came in with a beautiful header.

Dubravka again rescued his side with another brilliant save in the 58th minute, this time denying Raheem Sterling.

There’s nothing he could do though in the 68th minute when Riyad Mahrez found the back of the net, but the goal was subjected to a VAR review.

Sterling finally got on the scoresheet in the dying minutes of the match, after he got on to the end of a brilliant Jesus pass to give City their fourth goal.

The win took City to 44 points, four ahead of Liverpool who play Tottenham in the last match of the day.
