Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson has sent an emotional message to Liverpool fans after his sending off against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Scotsman had a nasty challenge on Emerson Royal towards the end of the game but despite initially being shown a yellow card, he received his marching orders after a VAR review on the incident.

“I was brought up to take responsibility when you’ve done something wrong and I have to admit my challenge was poor and misjudged,” wrote Robertson on Instagram.

The sending-off comes at a cost as the defender will now miss the next three matches which include a doubleheader against Leicester City in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, as well as the Boxing Day fixture against Leeds United.

Manager Jurgen Klopp however was very critical of the referee as he felt Spurs striker Harry Kane ought to have been sent off too earlier in the game for a challenge on Robertson.
