Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool recorded a routine 3-1 win at home to Newcastle in the English Premier League on Thursday night.

They however had to come from behind for the win, having conceded a seventh-minute goal which was tucked in by former Reds Jonjo Shelvey.

The win was however sealed by a thunderous, long-range strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold, who seems to be recapturing form in recent months.

The 23-year-old completed the comeback win that was started by Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah in the first, and he was all smiles after his goal.

“I’ve been waiting for that for five years now, waiting to hit it clean like that. I’ve had a few from the edge of the box and I’ve dragged them and things like that. I’ve caught that one sweet and it’s nestled in the top corner. It was a clean strike and obviously kind of put the game to bed,”

He was also full of praise for Salah, who has scored 22 goals in total this season.

“It’s mad. He is the best player in the world right now, it goes without saying. He’s scoring or creating or doing everything game in, game out. He’s having an incredible season

“I think that’s on his mind, he wants to break every record in the book, he wants to go and put his name in the history books,”

The win ensured the Reds kept pace with Manchester City, who won 7-0 at home to Leeds United on Tuesday night.
