Barcelona’s priority target for January remains Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.
The Blaugrana are in desperate need of reinforcements in attacking areas and have been linked with a host of names including Edinson Cavani, Raheem Sterling, Karim Adeyemi, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.
Ferran Torres is their preferred choice, even if it seems unlikely that the transfer will happen in January as the Premier League giants are reportedly asking for €60m for Torres, while the most Barcelona are prepared to pay is €45m.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Torres is keen to make the move to Barcelona.
FOOTBALLTRANSFERS’ MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD
Torres believes that, under Xavi, the only way is up for Barca as the former midfielder attempts to claw the club back to contention for major honours, in particular the Champions League.
And, Torres is keen to be one of the faces of the Xavi revolution.
At Man City, Torres does not believe he will ever be considered one of the team’s biggest stars due to the presence of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling.
The Spaniard wants to become a key player, and thinks Barca would give him that status.
So, how Barcelona line up with Torres in their ranks, if they get him in January?
Barcelona XI with Ferran Torres
Marc-Andre ter Stegen would start in goal in behind a likely back four of Dani Alves, Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba.
Alves was recently brought back to the club after a few years away to bring some much-needed experience to the squad.
He may be 38, but he was brought back for a reason and may usurp Sergino Dest to the right-back spot.
The midfield is where Xavi actually does have decent options, with Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Nico, Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Riqui Puig all available.
De Jong, Busquets and Pedri are first choice when all fit for now.
In attack, it is likely that Torres would feature in the centre-forward position as that is where Barca are desperately lacking in quality, with Sergio Aguero now retired and Luuk de Jong and Martin Braithwaite not proving to be the solution.
The Spaniard has also flourished there for Man City.
Ansu Fati will play ahead of Memphis Depay on the left if fully fit, while Ousmane Dembele will be deployed on the right, with Xavi an admitted fan of the Frenchman.
