We’re a few short weeks before the January transfer window bursts open, and it seems Chelsea’s next new signing has been revealed before time.
According to Hungary head coach Marco Rossi, Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai is on his way to the European champions, Chelsea.
“It’s hard to name just one player, but right now I see very well Attila Szalai, who plays for Fenerbahce, but I think he is joining Chelsea,” Rossi told Calciomercato.
“Clearly, he has been followed by important clubs in Spain, but apparently his move to Chelsea is a done deal. He would be a great player also for Italian football.”
The 23-year-old Szalai has been a major presence in Fenerbahce this season, thanks to 14 appearances from 15 Turkish Super Lig games.
Meanwhile, these news might suggest one of Thomas Tuchel’s central defenders’ future at Stamford Bridge is not exactly long. Could it be Antonio Rudiger? Andreas Christensen? Or the new lad could just be coming in as a long-term replacement of the great Thiago Silva.
