Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s recent form in from of goal is becoming a major concern for the club, coach Mikel Arteta has admitted.
Calls have been growing for Arteta to drop the Gabonese, following another frustrating night at Old Trafford as the Gunners went down 3-2 against Man United on Thursday night.
Speaking ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash away at Everton, the Spaniard however defended his talisman striker, saying ‘he’s trying’.
“You are always [concerned] when your main striker isn’t scoring goals but he is trying his hardest,” Arteta said when asked about Auba’s form.
“He is aware of how much we need him as a team to score goals and at the moment, they are not coming but the rest of the things we are asking him to do, he is trying his best,”
The striker has now failed to score in five Premier League matches in a row.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and AC Milan.
Aubameyang has scored a total of 92 goals in 162 games for the Gunners across all competitions.
