Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva once again showed why he is a key player in Manchester City’s team with a fantastic goal that gave the defending champions a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The winger has been for Pep Guardiola’s side and was at the centre of another good team effort as City kept pace with league leaders Chelsea.

With City leading 1-0 thanks to Ruben Dias’ early goal, Silva got to the end of a nice cross into the box to take a one-time shot into the roof of the net.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola was full of praise for City’s number 20, terming him ‘the best’.

“He is the best,” Guardiola said. “He was the best two or three seasons ago. He was the best then too. He has a special ability to do whatever he wants with the ball. Against a good goalkeeper, it was an incredible finish.

“You have to go back to when we won with 98 points, review the videos, you will see the same player like this right now.

City remain second on 32 points, one behind Chelsea, who beat Watford 2-1 on the night.

Liverpool, who thrashed Everton 4-1 are third on 31 points, with West Ham and Arsenal completing the top five.
