Super Eagles have been handed a massive blow with striker Victor Osimhen set to miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Osimhen has been sidelined for at least the next three months due to a facial injury he picked during Napoli’s match with Inter Milan over the weekend. The Nigerian, who has been in fine form for Napoli underwent surgery and faces a long layoff.
“On Tuesday morning, Victor Osimhen was operated on his cheekbone and eye socket,” a statement from Napoli read.
“Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation. The player is doing well and will remain under observation for the next few days.
“Osimhen is expected to return to action in three months.”
The 22-year-old has netted ten goals for Napoli so far this season, with the club establishing itself as a genuine title contender.
Most goals scored at a single U-17 World Cup tournament:
